Crown

Dental crowns can be made from porcelain, gold, or a combination of the two materials.
They completely cover a tooth providing strength and support for teeth which have been heavily filled, fractured or root treated. Many patients ask how long crowns last and this largely depends on how well the teeth are looked after. However, we would expect a good quality crown to last for between ten and fifteen years.

Dentures

At the practice we offer all types of denture treatment.
We can provide replacement of your existing complete and partial dentures copying those aspects which you like,
to give you the appearance you desire. We work closely with our experienced dental technicians (in Harley Street) to provide the highest quality dentures.

We will advise you on suitable alternative treatment options when dental extractions (removal of teeth) are necessary. If you have concerns about having dentures, particularly if you are a first time wearer, we will steer you sympathetically through what can be a difficult psychological experience. There is no need to be without your front teeth at any stage and with careful preparation dentures can be inserted immediately after extractions.

Many of our denture wearers are helped enormously with implants (see previous information) which can help stabilise and retain dentures so they don’t move around. The dentures attach to the implants with studs or clips and can still be removed by you for cleaning. However, sometimes our denture wearers replace their dentures completely with fixed implant bridges just like natural teeth.

Implants

Dental implants provide an alternative to dentures and conventional bridgework. They are used to replace missing teeth leaving adjacent healthy teeth unaffected.
A cylinder of titanium is placed in the position of the lost tooth root. An implant can support a new crown, be linked to other implants to replace multiple teeth, or provide extra stability for a denture. We are highly experienced and respected providers of this treatment.

Periodontal Treatment

The most common periodontal conditions are gingivitis and periodontitis, dental plaque.
Plaque consists almost entirely of bacteria which normally inhabit the mouth.
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gum and is common but readily reversible with good oral hygiene. Periodontitis affects approximately 10-15% of the population and is inflammation which extends to destroy the deeper supporting tissues of the tooth eventually leading to tooth loss. The signs and symptoms of both conditions vary but include bleeding gums, mobility and drifting of the teeth. However, it is possible to be suffering from gum disease without exhibiting these signs.

Susceptibility to destructive periodontal disease is not fully understood but four major factors are known to contribute to these conditions. These are family history, certain types of bacteria in plaque, stress and smoking. Stopping smoking is an important component in reducing the risk of developing periodontal disease and improving an individual's response to treatment.

An initial consultation includes a detailed examination, comprehensive X-rays, detailed discussion and formulation of a treatment strategy. This may involve co-ordinating some parts of the treatment with your general dental practitioner.

Maintaining the improvements after treatment is essential and patients are strongly advised to visit their specialist or a dental hygienist at regular intervals. This may be arranged in conjunction with your general dental practitioner according to individual requirements. The most important factor in maintaining gum health is the daily removal of plaque
